When Being “Too Much” Follows You Into Adulthood People talk. They always have. In school, I was known as “the ADHD kid.” The loud one. The energetic one. The one who always seemed to want attention. What most people didn’t see was something much simpler. When I was acknowledged for something I did well, I felt loved. I felt seen. I felt like I mattered. That wasn’t attention-seeking. That was a child trying to understand their place in the world. Growing Up Loud If you grow up being told you’re “too much,” you start to question yourself. Too loud. Too expressive. Too energetic. Too visible. You learn that being noticeable can come with consequences. You learn that standing out makes you a target for comments, jokes, or quiet criticism. But you also learn something powerful. You learn how to hold a room. You learn how to speak. You learn how to bring energy into spaces that feel flat.
